Pizza No Dough Nothing Red Weirdest Restaurant Orders According To Chefs
"One beef burger, medium rare, no cheese. No salt, no oil, no seasoning, no pepper.
"Absolutely plain, no toppings, no garnishes. No bacon, no pickles, no onion, no bread, noletuce [sic], no side salad. Just the plain pattie."
As restaurant orders go, the description above, recently found on a ticket at an "extremely fancy" New York restaurant and then posted on social media, sounds fussy and joyless rather than plain weird – until you read the final words on the ticket. "This is for a dog," the instructions concluded, which helps explain why the post has had 150,000 likes on Twitter.
But while strange, requests such as this one are not unheard of in restaurants all over the world. In fact, chefs routinely receive bizarre bespoke orders, and not only for a customer's canine companion – though such things are surprisingly common.
Santosh Shah, executive chef at Baluchi in London Bridge recalls a table of customers asking for every dish to be served with no chilli or spice. "As a chef at an Indian restaurant, this was a very weird order to receive. I prepared a start of Tandoori sea bass marinated in Kalamata olive paste with a side of avocado chutney, chicken breast main covered in a creamy tomato sauce, with basmati rice and plain butter naan."
